Art Of The Titles

Using a website called 'Art Of The Titles' I found lots of film reviews which spoke about different camera shots and title sequences which would be useful to read about before we start making our film opening.

I particularly liked the section about the main titles on 'The Cabin In The Woods.' It included a video which showed many different ways they could present the title of the film, which they could then choose from visually.

I have included the website link in the side bar.

Prelim Ideas Vlog

Here is Laura, Nadia and I talking as a group about our prelim ideas. Not everything has been decided yet but this is what we have thought about so far.

Prelim

As a group we have started to brainstorm ideas for our Prelim. We think we are now set on an idea (A take on High School Musical) which we will talk about it in a Vlog soon. Here is our brainstorm and script:

Black Out!

On Tuesday 24th September at around 8pm till 10pm my entire road experienced a black out. And as we were lighting candles and walking around looking for other sources of light, I started to think about how good this setting would look for a horror/thriller movie! The hallways, the rooms, the street and even the Tesco on the corner of my road was dark! I think this would make a really spooky film and experiencing this black out might give me and my group some ideas for our opening.

Luther

This is my camera shots story board I used for the clip of Luther. Sorry for the poor quality photos.

Luther

During last lesson we watched the opening clip from Luther. We were to watch it and record the different camera shots. I was amazed how many were used in such a short clip. I recorded 15 overall.

Whilst watching the clip we looked at the different techniques and sound effect that were used. I liked the way the clip began very calm with lots of pauses and no music or sound effects; I thought it was a great build up to watch was about to happen as no one in the class saw it coming.

Favourite Male Actor: John Candy

John Candy stars in a number of my favourite films such as Uncle Buck, Home Alone and above all, Cool Running. As shown in this list, John Candy is known for his sense of humour and comical characters within films. I enjoy watching his performances as he brings the roles to life and allows me to laugh a film every time I watch it.

Favourite Female Actor: Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz is a very experienced actor and has stared in many successful films such as Charlies Angles, Knight and Day and a favourite of mine, The Mask. I see her as a good actor and enjoy watching her because many of her films are very diverse. She plays a variety of different roles in different film genres; for example comedy and action.

Favourite Film: Falling Down

Falling Down is about an ordinary man who has had enough. The film focuses on stereotypes and everyday events which frustrate us and we can usually do nothing about. However in this film, these frustrations are faced and dealt with in a way you would not normally expect to happen.

I like that the events used in Falling Down are relatable: for instance, going to Burger King and not being able to order breakfast because they stopped serving breakfast 2 minutes ago. I enjoy watching how the main character deals with these situations and how different the approach is to what we are use to. Unlike many, I find this film is not predictable therefore entertaining and allows you to wonder, what will he do next? throughout the film.

Using A Mac

I am not very experienced when it comes to using a Mac, the first time I had to use one was during work experience a year ago. When shown how to do the basics I find the rest fairly simple to pick up on, however the software is very different from what I'm use to using at home. At home I use Windows 7, although I have an Ipad which I use for some of my work as well. Though I am determined to get to grips with using the Macs this year in Media.
