Anyone Home?

We are finally happy with all of our footage and almost finished with the editing. In this vlog we run through everything he had to cut out of our two minute opening because our footage was longer than expected. We also announce what we want to call our film. All that is left for us to do is add the title sequence, sound and film production.

Costume And Props

Editing And Cutting Down

I was editing with Nadia during Tuesdays lesson and did some more today to find a lot of out footage is very long and we are having difficulty cutting down to make our opening only 2 minutes.

It is currently 2 minutes 51 seconds without the kitchen footage.

Money Shot

Last week Laura and I made a vlog talking about our new 'money shot' idea. We mentioned how we would use an iPhone to do this, however, when we tried to stand it inside the draw and position it how we wanted it to look, the idea was not successful. So we used the flip camera instead ad are very happy with the footage. So far we think we have filmed all the upstairs footage we will need and will film the downstairs footage on Thursday.

When filming the upstairs footage we needed extra actors. Kieren who we introduced in a vlog recently who plays the guy in the house and we also used my mum to play Laura's mum. It took a long time to film these scenes as directing was proven to be more difficult then we had anticipated. We eventually got the footage and are currently editing.

Filming At My House

Here are the shots we did recently at my house as that will be the setting for our film opening. In this video the shots are not edited together chronologically but they will defiantly be re-filmed and used in our film opening.

First Draft Storyboard Vlog

On Monday Laura and Nadia came to my house and we did a vlog I talking about the storyboard we have put together for our film opening. We also talk about the setting of the film and in this vlog it shows my kitchen where some of the film footage will be shot.

First Draft Storyboard

We have put together a rough storyboard which we will follow and use when filming our two minute opening. We are not yet sure how much of it we will definitely use so we are currently putting together a practise video using the shots on the storyboard.

Honda Advert

I was watching TV the other day and I saw this new advert for Honda and found it really interesting. It created different optical illusions using different camera angles.

Filming Schedule

We would need to film our two minute opening early evening possibly after school as the setting for our film needs to be dark in the evening. We wanted this because it creates more of a "horror atmosphere".

Schedule:

Monday 12th
Tuesday 13th

Setting:

My house and street at 3:30pm.

Filming In Water

We were recently given a waterproof camera which gave us some ideas for filming. Me and my group decided we would put together a video showing different shots using water and a pint glass. We did this to get an ideas as to whether we want to use it in our 2 minute opening.

More Shot Practise Vlog

Laura and I talk about our shot practise we did down at 'The Green.'

More Shot Practise

Laura and I went to 'The Green' to film a few more shots that may be useful to have practised before we start film for our 2 minute opening.

Pitching Our Ideas

This is the pitch we did to our class about our film opening ideas.

Shot Practise And Pitching Ideas Vlog

Vlog talking about the shot practise and pitching our ideas to the class.

In my house I have this really long hallway which would be perfect for our movie idea. As someone walks down it, suspense would build and we could make it very dark so it would feel scary not only for the character but for the audience. We recently pitched this idea to our class and they thought it was a good idea.

What I Noticed When Interviewing

When I was interviewing I found a lot of people either loved or hated horror film, I found the same reaction with romcoms. Most of the information I received related to these two categories. It was interesting to know this because the ideas we had as a group related more to horror, therefore we could get a feel of what people like and dislike about them.

Interviews

Individually we interviewed random people asking them a set of questions to get an understand of what people look for in a film. This information would be useful later on when we produce our film opening. Once we had gathered our information we looked at each others interviews as a group to get more reliable information.

Ghost Town

I was in Enfield Town at around 7:00am one weekend when no one was around; this was originally to take photos for photography, however realised they would be useful for Media. The setting was very empty and felt abandoned, almost like a ghost town. It also reminded me or the film 'I Am Legend' with its emptiness. Everything was closed and only around 4 cars went through in the hour I was there. There were no people and it looked like a great setting for the beginning of a movie.

Prelim Storyboard

This storyboard gave as a rough guideline as to what we wanted to achieve in our prelim. We have now finished our prelim and did not stick to everything here, however we included things that visually looked better once we started filming.

YouTube Inspiration

A video on YouTube called "Mother shouts at girls for not flushing the toilet - It wasn't me" inspired us to recreate it for our prelim. It was funny and include the elements which we needed for our video: sitting down, conversation and someone coming through a door. All that was left for us to do was reword it and add in different camera shots and angles. Which we scripted and I will post next.

New Prelim Idea Vlog

In this vlog my group and I talk about changing our prelim idea.

Art Of The Titles

Using a website called 'Art Of The Titles' I found lots of film reviews which spoke about different camera shots and title sequences which would be useful to read about before we start making our film opening.

I particularly liked the section about the main titles on 'The Cabin In The Woods.' It included a video which showed many different ways they could present the title of the film, which they could then choose from visually.

I have included the website link in the side bar.

Prelim Ideas Vlog

Here is Laura, Nadia and I talking as a group about our prelim ideas. Not everything has been decided yet but this is what we have thought about so far.

Prelim

As a group we have started to brainstorm ideas for our Prelim. We think we are now set on an idea (A take on High School Musical) which we will talk about it in a Vlog soon. Here is our brainstorm and script:

Black Out!

On Tuesday 24th September at around 8pm till 10pm my entire road experienced a black out. And as we were lighting candles and walking around looking for other sources of light, I started to think about how good this setting would look for a horror/thriller movie! The hallways, the rooms, the street and even the Tesco on the corner of my road was dark! I think this would make a really spooky film and experiencing this black out might give me and my group some ideas for our opening.

Luther

This is my camera shots story board I used for the clip of Luther. Sorry for the poor quality photos.

Luther

During last lesson we watched the opening clip from Luther. We were to watch it and record the different camera shots. I was amazed how many were used in such a short clip. I recorded 15 overall.

Whilst watching the clip we looked at the different techniques and sound effect that were used. I liked the way the clip began very calm with lots of pauses and no music or sound effects; I thought it was a great build up to watch was about to happen as no one in the class saw it coming.

Favourite Male Actor: John Candy

John Candy stars in a number of my favourite films such as Uncle Buck, Home Alone and above all, Cool Running. As shown in this list, John Candy is known for his sense of humour and comical characters within films. I enjoy watching his performances as he brings the roles to life and allows me to laugh a film every time I watch it.

Favourite Female Actor: Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz is a very experienced actor and has stared in many successful films such as Charlies Angles, Knight and Day and a favourite of mine, The Mask. I see her as a good actor and enjoy watching her because many of her films are very diverse. She plays a variety of different roles in different film genres; for example comedy and action.

Favourite Film: Falling Down

Falling Down is about an ordinary man who has had enough. The film focuses on stereotypes and everyday events which frustrate us and we can usually do nothing about. However in this film, these frustrations are faced and dealt with in a way you would not normally expect to happen.

I like that the events used in Falling Down are relatable: for instance, going to Burger King and not being able to order breakfast because they stopped serving breakfast 2 minutes ago. I enjoy watching how the main character deals with these situations and how different the approach is to what we are use to. Unlike many, I find this film is not predictable therefore entertaining and allows you to wonder, what will he do next? throughout the film.

Using A Mac

I am not very experienced when it comes to using a Mac, the first time I had to use one was during work experience a year ago. When shown how to do the basics I find the rest fairly simple to pick up on, however the software is very different from what I'm use to using at home. At home I use Windows 7, although I have an Ipad which I use for some of my work as well. Though I am determined to get to grips with using the Macs this year in Media.
